Implantable Rat Telemetry System

The Telemetry System (now owned by Kaha Sciences) is the new standard in wireless, implantable telemetry technology to measure high-fidelity physiological signals in rats > 175 grams (and other small animals e.g. guinea pigs).  The system allows for the measurement of true high-fidelity ventricular and arterial pressure, sympathetic nerve activity (SNA), biopotentials (i.e., ECG, EMG, EEG) and tissue oxygen.

The rat telemetry system offers researchers the ability to improve data quality in basic cardiovascular research, safety pharmacology studies and toxicology studies. Data can be recorded for longer periods of time and in conditions unhindered by anesthesia or restraint. Additional benefits include reduced handling induced stress artifact and lab maintenance.

The Cohousing feature now allows the housing of up to two telemetered rats in one cage or allows one larger rat (>350g) to be implanted with two telemeters while retaining high quality, accurate recordings.

The complete system requires the Telemeter, Configurator and SmartPad and integrates with any data acquisition system.

Telemetry System Benefits

  • Replaces wires and cables
  • Enables long-term recordings
  • Enables monitoring in natural environments
  • Reduces handling induced stress artifact
  • Provides ability to use animals sequentially as their own controls or in multiple studies
  • Provides unsupervised round the clock measurements
  • Reduces the number of animals required
  • Reduces animal maintenance costs
